Welcome to the 2019 TUgis Conference. TUgis: Maryland’s Geospatial Conference is a cooperative undertaking of three primary partners—Maryland State Geographic Information Committee, Maryland Department of Information Technology, and Towson University. TUgis is dedicated to growing and empowering the GIS community throughout the Mid-Atlantic. The annual conference connects the Maryland GIS community to new ideas and trends and offers ample opportunities to find ways to collaborate.

Jonathan Resop is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Maryland in the Department of Geographical Sciences. Jonathan earned his Ph.D. at Virginia Tech in Biological Systems Engineering. At Virginia Tech he worked on projects related to spatial modeling and remote sensing, in particular problems involving agricultural and ecological systems. His dissertation applied terrestrial laser scanning (i.e. ground-based lidar) to ecological applications such as monitoring streambank retreat and stream restoration design. After completing his Ph.D. he worked as a post-doc for the USDA-ARS in Beltsville in the Crop Systems and Global Change Lab simulating the potential production capacity of crops for regional food systems using a geospatial crop model. He currently teaches Python programming, spatial modeling, and lidar remote sensing in the Master of Science in Geospatial Information Sciences program at UMD. He is also collaborating with the StREAM Lab at Virginia Tech (https://vtstreamlab.weebly.com/) to study the application of drone laser scanning for quantifying physical properties of riverscapes. Jonathan received his undergraduate degrees at the University of Maryland, College Park in Biological Resources Engineering and Computer Science. http://www.geog.umd.edu/facultyprofile/Resop/Jonathan
