Welcome to the 2019 TUgis Conference. TUgis: Maryland’s Geospatial Conference is a cooperative undertaking of three primary partners—Maryland State Geographic Information Committee, Maryland Department of Information Technology, and Towson University. TUgis is dedicated to growing and empowering the GIS community throughout the Mid-Atlantic. The annual conference connects the Maryland GIS community to new ideas and trends and offers ample opportunities to find ways to collaborate.

GIS Solutions for Hurricane Damage Assessments

When JMT was awarded a project to assess bridge and road sites in Puerto Rico that were damaged during Hurricane Maria, we used GIS to help meet the accelerated project schedule. In this presentation, we’ll explain how we leveraged ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, Survey123, Collector for ArcGIS, and the Python API for ArcGIS to support field data collection and generate assessment reports within seven days of each site visit. We’ll discuss lessons learned including the pros and cons of using a disconnected ArcGIS Enterprise environment, logistics of training field teams, and managing a fast-moving data collection effort.
