TUgis Conference 2019: Full Schedule

Welcome to the 2019 TUgis Conference. TUgis: Maryland’s Geospatial Conference is a cooperative undertaking of three primary partners—Maryland State Geographic Information Committee, Maryland Department of Information Technology, and Towson University. TUgis is dedicated to growing and empowering the GIS community throughout the Mid-Atlantic. The annual conference connects the Maryland GIS community to new ideas and trends and offers ample opportunities to find ways to collaborate.

Metadata for MD iMAP Services

MD iMAP is the State of Maryland’s Mapping and GIS Data Portal, maintained by the Geographic Information Office at the Department of Information Technology. The utilization of metadata for GIS web services is key in providing authoritative data. Metadata for MD iMAP services contain summaries and descriptions of the map service contents, keywords and tags related to the content, data ownership, publication date, and other pertinent information about the data. The importance of metadata cannot be understated as it provides users with detailed information about authoritative data sources, and provides confidence to users that they are working with the correct data layers. The metadata from these services are used to create downstream products such as the MD iMAP Status Dashboard, Data Freshness Report, and other data search tools. This lightning talk will illuminate our procedures and protocols in metadata creation and maintenance for our MD iMAP services.
