The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration’s (MDOT SHA) Cultural Resources Section is tasked with identifying historic resources that are within the I-495/I-270 Managed Lanes Study Area. That group is responsible for submitting Determination of Eligibility (DOE) forms for these resources to the Maryland Historical Trust. Eligible resources include approximately 300 identified items that are 40 years of age and older (based on the 1978 construction year). Traditionally, the forms were manually compiled using a costly and time-consuming process. Mr. Siwinski and Mr. Plack of MDOT SHA’s GIS team were tasked with streamlining the processing using the new, integrated reporting functionality in Esri’s Survey123 application. Paired with tools such as Collector for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, and Google Photos, the duo was able to automate the form generation process.
